Every now and then you see a piece of art that just stays with you. This has been the case for me since I first saw Justin Favela’s work at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art nearly 10 years ago.

The exhibit I was visiting, State of the Art, was put together by the museum’s curator who had extensively traveled the country to find the latest and greatest work being made by American artists. I still think it’s one of, if not the, most inspired exhibits I’ve ever seen. Here’s a little more on that if you’re interested.

Ok back to Justin’s work … Imagine walking into a large exhibit hall to discover a full size, bright green, 1964 Chevrolet Impala with the front end hopped up like a bouncing lowrider showing off its hydraulics. Now you also need to picture this being a piñata. See why I still think about it??!
