Kate Sherman’s paintings feel like a memory, but one of those memories that I can only see a sliver. The slight blur and cloudiness make me feel like I’m looking at something familiar but just out of reach. There’s something very hypnotizing about the work and I only want more. Cavaliero Finn, who represents Sherman’s work describes it so beautifully, “These beautiful, silent paintings are slightly blurred, like a snapshot from a passing car window, offering us an isolated part of someone’s narrative that we may never fully comprehend. The beguiling sense of mystery draws us in, forcing us to ask questions about the scenes depicted.”
